2024 Austin County Pecan Show winners

BELLVILLE - The Austin County Pecan Show for the 2024 crop year was judged on Dec. 4 at the Austin County Extension Office in Bellville. Dr. Philip Shackelford judged 21 entries.

Pecans were judged on weight before and after shelling, on the color of the pecan meat, on the absence of insect defects, and how easily they shell out. This is a free contest for any resident who has a pecan tree, whether it's in your yard, your pasture, or an orchard.

The educational program held in conjunction with the awards presentation educated attendees on “Pecans – Are They More than just a Nut: Alternative prod ucts made from Pecans.” This Annual Pecan Show is hosted by the Austin County Horticul- ture Committee & Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of

Austin County.
