Barbecue pit burns up car

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on Dec. 17 around 8:14 p.m., the Fayette County Sheriff's office received a 911 call reporting a vehicle fire on Farm-to-Market Road 2145 near Goehring Road.

The Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Department was notified and re sponded to the scene with Fayette County deputies Wesley Arrison and Jason Fowler.

Upon arrival, a 2011 GMC Acadia was on fire under a car port beside a residence. The vehicle was pulled away from the residence and carport.

The owner of the vehicle suffered burns to his legs trying to extinguish the fire.

Fayette County EMS Unit Medic 1 and EMS 3 Supervisor responded to the scene. The owner of the vehicle was transported by Medic 1 to Dell Seton Hospital in Austin.

The cause of the fire started from a barbeque pit, which was knocked over and ignited combustible materials while working on the vehicle.
