COLUMBUS In what could be compared to the Stafford-Townsend feud of Colorado County, the retribution shootings stemming from a shooting of a Columbus man, Keaton D. Hancock, in 2021. Cairo Ruvalcaba Jr. of Eagle Lake was sentenced to 25 years in the 25th District William D. Old III court on Dec. 11 in Columbus. Ruvalcaba waived his right to a trial by jury. He pleaded guilty to murder with no right to appeal.
Ruvalcaba was involved in multiple shootings that took place in September 2021 over several days at several locations in Columbus and Eagle Lake. During the shooting spree, two men were dead - one being Hancock and the other Jonathan Segura of Eagle Lake.
Ruvalcaba was arrested two weeks later and was charged in connection with Hancock's murder. Joey Casanova, Dontrae Johnson, Daegan Mendoza, and Larenz Stevens have been sentenced earlier. Casanova and Stevens were handed life sentences, while the others received lesser sentences.
