Eagle Lake Lions hears fowl language

EAGLE LAKE — At its regular meeting, the Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club recently heard from Jade Cooper, a wildlife refuge specialist with the Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge in Eagle Lake.

One question posited by Cooper was how the community can become more involved. According to Cooper, one of the ways the community can become more involved is by volunteering at the refuge. Volunteers can help keep the visitors center open, provide prairie restoration help and run the monthly van tours. These are just a few of the ways the community can help.

Cooper wanted the public to know that Friday, April 4 will be the grand opening of the visitors center at the refuge. The time has not been set yet. The Annual Booming and Blooming Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 5 and 6 The festival is the celebration of conservationism efforts for the Attwater Prairie Chicken.

Guided tours of the chicken’s natural habitat will be conducted, and the courting ritual will be witnessed. There will be ambassador animals, vendors and activities for kids.
