Lady Cardinals basketball has been one of the better area teams throughout the past few years. They are staying on their stride with a successful season this year as they have a record way above .500 and also a strong record in district play. They recently went on a four-game winning streak with wins against Palacios, Yoakum, Edna, and Industrial.
Columbus is led by head coach Mike Albers who has this team playing great ball once again. The Lady Cardinals are fundamentally sound on both sides of the ball with good role players. A player who really stands out is Anaya Gardner. Gardner is tall, athletic, can shoot the three, and can handle the ball well. A lot of Columbus’ offense is run through her bringing the ball up the floor and making plays at the top of the key. Columbus has a great shot to make it back to state if they stay on this pace.
