Gravel pit machinery claims life of Columbus resident

ELLINGER — A machinery accident occurred at a gravel pit on Ruldoph Road near Krenek Road about 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 30 in the Ellinger area. Upon arriving on the scene, first responders quickly realized that the victim was deceased. First responders rendered the scene safe and quickly notified the Fayette County Office of Emergency Management that there was a need of specialized technical rescue resources not available locally.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management quickly started working to notify and dispatch the Bryan Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team.

Simultaneously on the scene, phone calls were made to Delgado's Wrecker Service and McCourt Equipment for their related technical expertise. Extensive recovery efforts were completed around 6:30 a.m. the following day. All agencies above responded quickly and professionally to handle the situation with dignity and respect. Fayette County EMS would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the government agencies and private organizations that teamed up today without hesitation. It would also like to offer prayers of comfort to the victim and to his family and friends.

The accident victim was Reynaldo Barrientos, 46, of Columbus. Family members have been notified.
