Sealy PD partners with Sealy EDC for cameras

SEALY — The Sealy Economic Development Corporation partnered with the Sealy PD to help Sealy PD acquire Flock Safety LPR cameras.

The Sealy Economic Development Corporation states, “ A key component of the mission of the Sealy Economic Development Corporation is to help create safe, enjoyable and attractive commercial areas that attract investors, shoppers, citizens and visitors. We believe a key factor in achieving this is through our economic partnership with the Sealy Police and by providing them with the tools they need, like these Flock cameras, to keep our community safe.”

Flock cameras are license plate readers that help law enforcement and communities reduce crime. Flock cameras capture vehicle characteristics and license plates and can send alerts to police when a wanted vehicle is detected. It gives police actionable leads needed to solve an investigation.

Detectives can pinpoint the suspect’s last known location.

It also uses the unique Vehicle Fingerprint technology, allowing users to filter their search based on the vehicle’s body type, make, color and other characteristics.

Flock cameras store all data for only 30 days or in adherence with local laws. Data collected is never stored nor used by Flock. All data is stored in the AWS GovCloud and is only available to law enforcement.

More than 70 percent of all crimes are committed using a vehicle during the crime. It can also be used to locate stolen vehicles. It is an invaluable tool to help police during crimes such as retail theft, robberies, property crimes, help solve burglaries, catalytic converter thefts, to help locate missing or endangered children or individuals and to combat narcotics and human trafficking.

As of press time, there is no date as to the cost or when the Flock cameras will be installed by the city of Sealy.
