COLUMBUS — The Colorado County Go Texan Valentine’s Dinner and Dance was held Feb. 7 at the Colorado County Fairground in Columbus.
The event featured a ribeye steak dinner, live auction and dance.
The live auction fundraiser brought in $8,625.
County chairman Amber McCarthy said, “The purpose of this fundraiser is to bring awareness to the county about the Colorado County Go Texan Committee and our mission to provide post-secondary education scholarships for students at Columbus, Rice and Weimar high schools pursuing four year degrees, two year degrees and trade school certifica tions. HLSR has generously started an Area Go Texan Vocational Scholarship, where our committee must match funds of a minimum of $3,000 and those funds will be given back directly to Colorado County.”
She also added, “On top of that we also are starting a scholarship for those students who have competed on their high school's BBQ Team (only Columbus and Rice have teams at this time) and we are raising funds for that endeavor as well. So overall, this event is to bring awareness, education and participation in our events to benefit our communities.
Our big scholarship fundraiser will be held Sept. 20, 2025, at St Mary's Nada Hall. We are grateful for all of the support we receive throughout the year!!”
