WEIMAR - The Weimar High School softball team was defeated by Ganado High School March 14 at Lady Wildcats Field in Weimar by a final score of 4-1.
This was a game with a lot of defense and even though Weimar made a rally in their final at bat, a big third inning and a couple runs down the stretch ultimately sealed the game for Ganado.
“We hit the ball hard and we hit a lot of balls straight at them," said Weimar head softball coach Roger Maupin. "We made some defensive plays. They hit some balls that got in the gap. Got to give them credit. When we hit the ball hard, they made the plays. I don’t know how many strikeouts
we had, but it wasn't many. We put the ball in play and we gave
ourselves a chance. That’s what we wanted." Ganado scored their first run in the top of the third inning after a double to left center, a pass ball, a sacrifice bunt, and a single to left to take a 1-0 lead.
They scored again in the same inning after wild throw from Weimar, which sent runners to second and third base. Ganado proceeded to hit a sacrifice fly to right field that sent the runner home from third by tagging up.
The Lady Indians didn’t score again until the top of the sixth inning on a home run over the
left field wall to make it 3-0 after Weimar threatened in the previ ous inning with base hits from
Claire Pavlu and Taylor Smith.
They scored their final run in the top of the seventh after a few hits and a shot to second base that scored a runner from third base.
Weimar rallied in the bottom
of the seventh with two base hits, but Ganado wrapped it up with a
strikeout a nd a pop out to win the game 4-1.
