Schulenburg softball mercies Bloomington

SCHULENBURG — The Schulenburg High School softball team took down Bloomington High School March 21 at Shorthorns Field in Schulenburg and won by mercy rule with a final score of 16-2.

Schulenburg put their offense on display from the very start and drove in a bunch of runs within three innings to get the big win.

“Our pitcher was out with an injury and our freshman stepped up," said Schulen burg head softball coach Loren Besetzny. “She stepped up great. Defense played behind her. We’ve been working on that a lot.

Play and have fun with it."

Schulenburg pitcher Brenley Bujnoch tossed a stellar outing by only giving up two earned runs and not allowing much of anything on offense.

“Just pitching the ball over the plate," Bujnoch said on her performance. “Really focusing on getting the ball off."

Schulenburg scored eight

runs in the first inning with a bunch of base hits, one coming from Perla Martinez that scored two runs. Bloomington answered back with a walk and two stolen bases with one being on a pass ball to put it at 8-1, which was followed by a few small hits in the same inning to make it 8-2.

The Lady Horns responded with six more runs in the bottom of the second inning

on two doubles, a couple base hits, and a walk to gain

a 14-2 lead going into the top of the third inning.

Schulenburg scored two more runs in their last at bat on some base hits and two walks en route to the game being called by mercy rule in the bottom of the third inning for Schulenburg at 16-2.
