Austin County Sheriff's Office issues scam alert

Recently, many Austin County residents have received texts, emails, and or calls regarding outstanding fees due with the Austin County Sheriff's Office.

Some of these are people posing as deputies and even using current deputy's names.

All of the scammers are asking for money via cash cards and or online transfers to resolve tickets or warrants. DO NOT SEND MONEY.

Austin County Sheriff Jack

Brandes stated these are all

scams and not affiliated with the Austin County Sheriff's Office.

We will NEVER contact you and ask for money.

Additionally, we have received information from neighboring counties that citizens have been scammed related to PPP loans.

The scammers have been sending documents that look like fed- eral court records. These records have the names of the victims typed in and seem legitimate.

Again, these are all scams. The federal government published a list of PPP loan recipients and it appears the scammers are using this to target people.

The federal courts nor federal agents contact people via text or email asking for mon- ey. PLEASE DO NOT SEND MONEY to these scammers.

Feel free to contact the sher- iff's office at 979-865-3111 if you have any questions related to these ongoing scams.
