Walk Across Texas exercise time

WEIMAR — This year is rushing by. Can you believe it’s almost Easter? If you are like so many, you have put off getting an exercise routine that works for you.

Well, it is time to turn things around.

Friends of the Weimar Public Library and Colorado County AgriLife are offering a new way to get involved, improve health, and have fun.

Walk Across Texas program will begin on Monday, April 7, so call the library and get started!

It is so simple. Participants create or join a team of up to eight people who work together towards the goal of logging a combined 832 miles, the distance it would take to walk across Texas.

You might want to create a neighborhood team, or you might want to create a team at work. Friends of the Weimar Public Library is encouraging church groups, clubs, organizations, businesses, teachers, hospital/ clinic/caregivers, banks etc. to create their teams and join in a competition that can help establish the habit of regular physical activity and a fun, flexible way to exercise. The program spans an eight-week period, is free, and at its end, teams gather for awards distributed to the winning top three teams.

In addition to walking, each team member’s favorite physical activity can also be logged as “miles walked.” For instance, 30 minutes of moderate intensity aerobics equals 1.5 miles walked, or digging in the garden for 30 minutes will allow you to record 2.5 miles of walking.

A convenient, simple method of converting activity minutes to miles is provided to participants.

Grab your friends, family, co-workers and let’s get started by calling the Weimar Public Library at 979-725-6608 to add your team to the Walk Across Texas competition.
