WEIMAR - During a special ses - sion of the Weimar city council, Rich ard Whitten, city manager for Weimar, resigned from his position, effective immediately. Whitten had been the city manager since March of 2024 and was at the end of his contract.
Whitten resigned because he and the city council could not agree on the terms of his contract to continue his services.
The city council held a follow-up spe- cial session on March 24 and named Da -
vid Mason as the interim city manager. Mason, who was unanimously voted
in by the city, held positions within the city of Weimar as the director of finance and the public works director.
Mason continues to work in the fi - nance department and Derek Schwenke will oversee the public works as of press time.
Police Chief Mark Jameson tendered his resignation as well, citing changes to his personal and professional life.
Jameson leaves the department with a well-staffed department.
No interim police chief has been named as of press time.
