The Texas Independence Relay, (TIR), founded in honor of the Come and Take It Texas Revolution, starts in Gonzales each year and runs 200 miles to end in Houston. This year, the endurance run took place on March 29 and March 30.
Hundreds of runners and volunteers de-
scend on Gonzales, where the first shots of the Texas Revolution rang out, and
will run day and night following the 200 mile path of General Sam Houston and his army.
The TIR run snakes through Fayette, Colorado and Austin counties with baton exchanges happening in Flatonia, Schulenburg, Weimar, Columbus, Altair, Eagle Lake and Wallis before continu ing on to Fulshear.
Weimar is one of the baton exchanges that many runners love to run through.
Over 30 vans pull up to the Weimar City Hall parking lot and unload the next set of runners and pick up the previous runners. What makes this stop special is the party atmosphere. Lead volunteer Tara Dilley of Weimar makes sure that the stop for the runners runs smoothly. Dil ley should know because she has been providing her time for the TIR for over 15 years. One of her favorite times of the
run is seeing Lori Longoria and Charlie Jones each year as they wheel through on the historic run. Longoria and Jones, both from Victoria, are all smiles as
they finish the Schulenburg to Weimar leg. Runners of all shapes and sizes and costumes jog their way down a path that many have come to know so well over the years.
