EAGLE LAKE - Attorney Joe Fling was the guest speaker at the Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club April 3 at the Eagle Lake Commerce of Chamber Civic Center on April 3.
Fling and co-author, Sandra C. Thomas wrote the book: Seventy Years a Victory: 19452015 about World War II. He highlighted a Colorado County citizen, 1st Lieutenant Charles P. Boggess who joined the Army in 1942 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Boggess was assigned to C Company, 37th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division. During the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, he commanded C Company. His tank was the first that broke through German lines and entered Bastogne to relieve the 101st Airborne Division and to end the Nazi siege of the city. Boggess received three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star during his service in the Army.
