MOULTON — The Fayetteville High School baseball team put on a great showing April 16 at Moulton City Park by thumping Moulton High School with a final score of 15-0 in four innings by mercy rule.

Fayetteville was unstoppable at the plate early and didn’t look back as they shortened the game by continuing to add run support throughout the contest.

“We started off a little slow,” said Fayetteville head baseball coach Clint Jaeger. “Then we were a little more patient and started piecing together some base hits and getting a lot of runners on base. Chance got us going with the home run in the first inning. The first inning was a little slow for us, but we got back into it. I think just persevering when things aren’t going your way. Very proud of the guys.”

Lions first baseman Chance Konvicka launched a home run to start the game and also closed the game out on the mound as a pitcher.

“Not many people see left-handed hitters,” Konvicka said on the advantages of being a lefty at the plate. “I can hit it to all sides of the field."

After Konvicka’s home run, Fayetteville took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, then scored three more runs in the top of the third inning on three base hits and a walk.

The Lions really did damage in their next at bat, scoring the rest of their runs on three walks, four base hits with one being from shortstop Easton Jaeger, a hit by pitch, and two pass balls to take a 15-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.

Fayetteville was able to strikeout three batters in a row in the bottom of the fourth inning en route to a 15-0 win by mercy rule.
