Life is but a book

Life is but a book

Who doesn’t love a good book? Whether it’s a mystery, drama, biography, fact, or fic tion, a good book is more than just having a fancy dust cover with great graphic art that sits on the coffee table for everyone to see how literate one appears.

It starts on the first page and goes to the last page. A riveting story with a storyline of twists and turns and unexpected situations that tugs at your need to continue reading to the next chapter.

How often can this story’s character(s) rise from each devastating setback and fight valiantly against all odds? Death and destruction are intermingled with living la Vida Loca! However, every book has moments where the plot keeps plodding along with no end in sight. Then it’s off to the races again! Page after page, the main character advances in his quest for what the writer has set before him. Pages turn into chapters that dictate turns of events in the main character’s march to the madness of his life until the book’s con- clusion. Only then, in the final chapter, the final page, the last sentence, does the character know the outcome of his dances with death and loving of life that weaved its way through the book of life. Who knew that a book with the title, The Life and Times of (insert your name here), could read like fiction, be written like an autobiography and be played out like a drama?

The life we live is like a book. The dust jacket may not be fancy. It may be worn and torn. It may not be in ideal condition, but it is inside between Chapter One and The End that makes life worth living. The story of our life takes us through twists and turns, and we never know from minute to minute what situation may arise that has us feeling defeated, angry, sad, fighting valiantly for our lives against a deadly disease, cancer or our sanity or dancing the happy dance. Yet, each page that is turned brings life to life!

We can become bored between chapters of our life, but you better hang on because it’s gonna get crazy! We must continue turning the pages one after the other with each heart-racing, heart-wrenching chapter that drives us forward with the need to see what’s going to happen next.

As the sun sets on the horizon of our life and the final chapter is being read, we can only look back and marvel at what a good story it was. The author of our book of life knew us better than we knew ourselves.

Psalm 139: 13-16, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet was none of them.” La Vida Loca.
