SEALY — The Tigers base - ball team defeated Bellville High School March 14 at Aubrey Stuessel Field in Sealy by a final score of 9-0. The Sealy pitching was superb and they were able to get timely hits when they needed them. "What was great, was we had

great at bats,” said Sealy head baseball coach Trey Marik.

"We got lead off hitters on five fo the six innings. We didn't hit many pop-ups. That's kind of our bugaboo is hitting pop-ups. We did a good job. Their pitcher was really good. He throws mid to upper 80's and we really made good contact. I'm really proud of the guys, the way they come out and they competed, battled, and got after them."

Sealy pitcher Ethan Doyle put up a complete game shutout and had his command in full control.

“I pitched pretty good,” Doyle

said. "I was trying to throw strikes and makes some plays.

I was pretty mad from last year that we lost to them both times we played them, so I was really just trying to put it on them to night."

Bellville has the talent and coaching to bounce back and make another deep run as it's still early in the season and plen ty of time to tweak some things.

“Sealy just kind of took it to us tonight,” said Bellville head baseball coach Todd Hatton. "We didn't show up with the right

mindset and they took advantage of some of our mistakes. Once that started happening, it kind of snowballed on us. Things kind of fell their way and they played really well. That happens. In this district, if you don't play your best game every night, it's gonna be tough. They played well and we didn't match them, so give them credit and we gotta be bet ter."

Sealy scored their runs evenly throughout the game, making big hits as well as plays on defense to hold Bellville from threatening.

The Tigers had their big inning in the bottom of the fourth in ning as they scored five runs in

the inning on a handful of walks

and base hits. Sealy's Haden Wernecke was part of the action

with his good base running and

cashed in on runs with his speed. Wernecke made it 4-0 on a wild pitch to the plate, then a few more base hits and another wild pitch, one basehit being from Dylan Aguado, made it 7-0 in the same inning. Sealy's Doyle would go on to complete his masterpiece of an outing with a few more strikeouts and some ground balls to close out a 9-0 victory.
