Carter receives 40 years in the Thompson murder

COLUMBUS – A Columbus man has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to to 40 years in the death of 46-year-old Sigsbee W. Thompson, in 2021.

COLUMBUS — A Columbus man has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to to 40 years in the death of 46-year-old Sigsbee W. Thompson, in 2021.

Dejan Dupri Carter, 25, was sen- tenced March 13 by District Judge Jes sica Crawford at the Colorado County Courthouse in Columbus.

Thompson, also of Columbus, was shot multiple times Oct. 18, 2021, in the 800 block of Live Oak in Columbus and transported to a Katy hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Columbus Police Department determined that Thompson was murdered and was assisted in the investigation by Texas Ranger Company C Cody Rogers. During the investigation a warrant was issued for Carter for the murder.

Carter was apprehended Oct. 21, 2021, in Houston after the Columbus Police Department and Texas Ranger Rogers, with the assistance of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Farce, received information of his possible location.
