MILDRED BERNICE (LAMKIN) BISSELL
Mildred Bernice (Lamkin) Bissell passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on November 21, 2024 in Houston, Texas, surrounded by her loved ones and devoted long-time caregivers. Born January 24, 1933 in Weimar, Texas, Mildred was the youngest of the two children of Olga and Alva Lamkin. After graduating from Weimar High School, she moved to Houston, Texas to attend the University of Houston Pharmacy College from which she graduated in 1955. For thirty-eight years she practiced her profession in the Houston area. Mildred adored her family and friends, music of all kinds, and travel. She was always generous with her time and resources, and helped anyone in need. Mildred was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church where she enjoyed serving in several of the ministries throughout the years. Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Charles Bissell; her parents, Olga Bertha (Pachal) Lamkin and Alva Erasmus (Ras) Lamkin; her brother, Edward Howard Lamkin; and her grandson, Gilbert Leroy Smith IV.
She is survived by her children (twins), Sarah Van Zandt (Smith) Bay and husband, Thomas Hulon Bay, and Gilbert Leroy Smith III; her grandchildren, Melissa Van Zandt (Bay) Brown, and husband, Phillip Brogley Brown, and James Austin Bay, and wife, Sabrina Nicole (Verna) Bay; and her great-grandchildren, Luke Owen Brown and Matthew Thomas Brown.
A memorial service was held on November 26, 2024 at 11am in the chapel at South Park Cemetery. Visitation began at 10 am, with interment following the service.
