Ruby Elaine Alvarez “RubyDoo”, of Columbus, Texas, passed away on January 4, 2025 in Houston, Texas at the age of 62. She was born on December 31, 1962 to Benito Ray and Lucille Maria (Galabeas) Hernandez in Eagle Lake, Texas. On April 12, 1996, she married Paul Alvarez.

Ruby was a CNA at River Oaks nursing home for 35 years, retiring in 2020. She enjoyed drinking her morning coffee, watching 'The Little House on the Prairie', and 'The Price is Right'. Her hobbies included spending time with her sisters and taking care of her dogs Baby and Cookie. She loved attending church and singing praise and worship songs and being in fellowship. Her favorite thing was her family, she loved spending time with them, especially her children, and grandchildren. She will be most remembered for her love and compassion she had for others. She was kind and generous soul, always putting others needs before her own. My mother had such a Big heart and she showed in the love and care she gave for others, whether it was cooking for you, calling you just to check in on you, but mostly praying for you.

Ruby was preceded in death by: her parents, Benito and Lucille Hernandez; sister, Margret Camacho; brother, Rudy Hernandez; nephew, Jesse Hernandez Jr., and daughter, Stephanie Hernandez.

Ruby is survived by: her husband of 28 years, Paul Alvarez; children, Rachel and Greg Goering of Alvin, TX, Rocky and Jennifer Hernandez of Columbus, TX, and Rose and Jeff Mendoza of Cypress, TX, Edward and Jesse Alvarez of Columbus, TX; grandchildren, Joshua Hernandez of Columbus, TX, Joel Mendoza of Cypress, TX, Sophia Goering of Alvin, TX, Lucy Goering of Alvin, TX and Aaron Goering of Alvin, TX.

Funeral services were on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Columbus Family Worship Center, 3231 Columbus Loop, Columbus, Texas with Pastor Chip Murphy officiating. Visitation was at church on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.

Serving as pallbearers were Joshua Hernandez, Joel Mendoza, Brandon Reyes, Shawn Reyes, Cristian Reyna Gonzales and MJ Gonzales. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Aaron Goering, Kyle Reyes, Edward Alvarez, and Jesse Alvarez.
