Missing a lot
As I approach the age where its closer to the Lord than it is to high school, I think of what was, what is and what is yet to come. If this sounds almost like a Bible verse, well, it almost is one. But as one can see, the Bible shadows our lives. the Bible is no more truer today than it was yesterday and what is yet to come.

Bum
The horse trade wasn’t my idea. It was true that my bronc-riding career was limping into the sunset, and I’d considered buying a few mares to breed. But, the offered trade cameas a surprise. Up until now rodeo saddle broncs, rehabbing race horses, starting colts, riding thespoiled rough string, and packing mules were my claim to fame. I’d earned my pro-rodeo status competing across the U.S., and the wilderness hunt- ing camp outfitters in Montana and Wyoming habitually assigned sour mishandled horses to my charge. It was my common thought that a gentleman cowboy should raise his own herd of riding stock and that it shouldbe well-mannered, wellbred, and carry ample brains. Saddling and stepping aboard outlaws before daylight was wearing thin.

Gov. Greg Abbott, in a State of the State address last Thursday, outlined his seven top priorities for the ongoing legislative session before an invitation-only audience at a manufacturing facility in San Marcos, the Austin American-Statesman reported. Those priorities include $4 billion for border security, property tax relief and more school choice for parents, which he called “education freedom.” He avoided use of the word “vouchers.’

Cold weather memories in Fayette County
The recent cold weather a few days before Christmas 2022, where temperatures ranged from 17 degrees to lows of 12 de grees in some of the rural areas, caused many to reminisce about past cold weather events. Though this event was called a “once in a generation” winter storm, many would easily refer to the ice/snow storm of February 2021 as "the" storm to use as a benchmark.

A Baseball Story
I like baseball. No, I love baseball. There is something about the rhythm and cadence of the game that I find intox - icating. The ebb and flow of the action, the smell of fresh cut grass and old leather, the crack of a ball as it meets the bat, even the crunch of peanut shells under foot at the ballpark, these things, and more, have always attracted me to the sport.

The definition of Talent
The den supported the acoustical overtures for Sunday afternoons. Once it was a double-car garage. Now it is a sprawling carpeted room with bookshelves, cabinets full of vinyl records, glass-doored cabinets with China and Crystal, a television, Dad’s rocking chair, Mama’s sewing table, a 1911 upright piano, and a small prairie of open floor space.

Cardboard flaps
It wasn’t that long ago, so it seems, I was free-wheeling it down the road on my huge mo- torcycle with the mufflers doing that Harley-Davidson thing. Bikers would know what I mean. The wind blowing through my hair, hitting the open road with nary a care in the world. At least, that is how I imagined it as I rode my bicycle on FM 949 with card- board flaps pinned on my bike so the wheels’ spokes would hit the flap and make an awesome motorcycle sound. Of course, my hair wasn’t that long back then yet.
