WEIMAR – the Friends of the Weimar Public Library will present its 3rd Annual Poetry Open Mic Night tonight (Thursday, April 25) at 6:30 p.m. at the City Gazebo in Weimar.

WEIMAR – The Friends of the Weimar Library will hold its annual book sale on Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Weimar Library (1 Jackson Square). This sale is open to the public, and we invite everyone to see what we offer.

What Is Economic Development? Economic development is the intentional practice of improving a community’s economic well-being and quality of life.

As voters, it is crucial to understand the importance of local elections – from city council, school trustees, mayors, and school boards – local elections deserve just as much attention and consideration as the presidential race and other federally elected positions. It is our city council members who make decisions about where the money goes and our school boards who allocate more funding to our schools. On average, local elections tend to have a lower turnout when, in fact, some of them may be even more important to our everyday lives.

EAGLE LAKE – Strengthening Community Resiliency Through Small Business Preparedness is the next Lunch and Learn topic hosted by the Eagle Lake Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, May 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be held at the Eagle Lake chamber building on 303 E. Main.

Early voting began Monday, April 22 for municipal, school board and various bond elections. It ends on April 30 with Saturday, May 4 being election day. What is on the ballot depends on where you live.

LA GRANGE – Recently, EEA (Extension Education Association) of Austin County, which is a direct part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, hit the road again on another great adventure. This adventure took them to Fayette County where they explored a host of beautiful quilts at the Texas Quilt Museum. They viewed the shop's winter and spring exhibits.

COLUMBUS – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Dawn Hoffmann in Colorado County reminds foreign investors with an interest in agricultural land in the United States that they are required to report their land holdings and transactions to USDA.

Second Chance Emporium (SCE) recently donated $4,500 to the Texas Quilt Museum. Monies donated will be used to purchase sewing machines, sewing tables, irons and ironing boards, starter packs of fabric, threads, etc.

COLUMBUS – If you are looking for plants to attract pollinators to your yard or plants for sun or shade, the Columbus Garden Club Plant Sale Saturday, April 27, at 8 a.m. will have just what you need.

COLUMBUS – The John Everett Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution of Columbus has selected its scholarship winners for 2024. Each year, the chapter gives $600 scholarships to three outstanding Colorado County students. This year the winners are: Talyr Tipton of Columbus High School, Ariana Palacios of Rice High School, and Amy Christen of Weimar High School.
