COLUMBUS – The 2024 Columbus Duck Derby is almost here. Just as the Kentucky Derby came down to a very close race, the Columbus Education Foundation anticipate the same outcome for the Duck Derby. This event has been carefully planned to be a fun family gathering as everyone cheers the ducks to the finish line.

Oakridge VFD holds annual fundraiser
OAKRIDGE – It just keeps getting bigger and better as the Oakridge Volunteer Fire Department opens up its doors to its new fire station for the annual fundraiser on May 4 in Oakridge near Weimar. The chicken fried steak dinner were not the only highlight of the day. Instead of pie in the sky, it was pie in the face as the Oakridge VFD chief and president got a taste of whipped cream. The event was filled with laughter, games, and the thrill of winning, making it a day to remember.

Seniors Together holds successful fundraiser
COLUMBUS – The Seniors Together group, both Columbus and Weimar, held a rummage sale for the community. Proceeds go to help fund the activities and other expenses associated with running senior group centers in Colorado County. Seniors Together meet in Columbus and Weimar and plans are in the works to add Eagle Lake to the list. The Fayette County Sheriff's Department went all out for Autism Acceptance Month, by partnering with Turtle Wing Foundation to host an awareness campaign, with donations being raised to Sponsor a Deputy for them to receive a special blue Autism Acceptance badge for the month of April.

Grace’s Table: The beloved community meal returns
COLUMBUS – Grace’s Table is a community meal held once per month. There is no charge. The purpose is for people and families to gather and share a meal, get to know their neighbors, and experience fellowship. Grace’s Table is a ministry of the First United Methodist Church of Columbus, but the church stresses that it is non-denominational and open to the entire community.
