COLUMBUS - Seniors from around the county came for a good time socializing, playing games, eating a good lunch and, of course, playing Bingo. The first-ever gathering of a county-wide social group for seniors had everyone laughing and smiling. After an opening prayer, over 36 people and six volunteers got busy having fun. Future gatherings include educational speakers, day trips, dances and more Bingo.

MILLHEIM - Millheim Harmonie Hall will hold a Father's Day and barbecue celebration Sunday, June 18 at the hall located on Farm-to-Market Road 949 between Sealy and Bellville. The meal is a real Texas style open pit barbecue served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost to make your plate and dine in is $15 for adults and $8 for children 10 and under. To go plates at the drive-thru are $15. BELLVILLE – Bellville Little League will install new lights at its main baseball field, thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and City of Bellville.

FLATONIA – The Flatonia Volunteer Fire Department will purchase new fire hoses and oth - er equipment for its firetrucks, thanks to a $13,311 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and the City of Flatonia.

LA GRANGE – The Texas Department of Transportation will be starting a project to rehabilitate the existing roadway on US 77, 0.4 miles South of La Grange, on Monday, June 19, weather permitting. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Schulenburg Shorthorn Band recently traveled to Washington, D.C. While there, the band visited and laid a wreath at the Texas Column of the World War II Memorial in honor of those Texans who made the ultimate sacrifice during WWII. The band marched down Constitution Avenue in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C.
