Fayette Electric Cooperative employees recently participated in the Progressive Ag Safety Day held May 12 at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in La Grange Safety Coordinator Larry Sulak narrated, while Lineman Justin Whited and Apprentice Lineman Justin Neiser demonstrated a variety of different scenarios that children could find themselves in while playing outside around electricity. These demonstrations included an electric arcing demo, a kite contacting an electric line, tree limbs touching electric lines, clothing contacting a power line as well as several others.

The Texas Success Initiative was enacted by Texas legislators for all public state institutions of higher education. The TSI Assessment (TSIA) evaluates students’ readiness for college-level coursework in reading, writing, and mathematics. Students participating in dual credit classes must meet the minimum passing standards to enroll.

COLUMBUS – Karl Hill, whose career spanned 35 years at The First State Bank of Columbus, died suddenly at his home in Columbus on May 22 at the age of 58.

He played high school baseball in Weimar and college baseball for four years before moving to the minor leagues. After playing in the minor leagues, he coached for two years before realizing that God may have vested him with more than a strong arm and a commanding presence as a coach.

WEIMAR – Veterans Memorial Park of Weimar soon will update the electrical and lighting systems in its community hall thanks to a $24,924 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and the City of Weimar.

BELLVILLE – Bellville Police Chief Jason Smalley issued a statement of shots fired in Bell ville and a subject arrested. Carlo DeWayne Shelly, 26, of Dallas was arrested last night at the Park Place Apartments, located at 20 South Mechanic St. in Bellville. Shelly was issued a criminal trespass warning earlier in the day and was removed from the property by request.

SCHULENBURG – The future of agriculture is promising!

On April 29, County Extension Agents-Family & Community Health from DeWitt, Fayette, Gonzales, and Lavaca Counties co-hosted a Multi-County/District Early Childhood Confer- ence. The event was held at the Anne Friar Thomas Homemaking Building in Cuero and a total of 60 area childcare providers registered for the all-day event.
