SEALY – The Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association will host its annual plant sale Saturday, April 8, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. or when sold out. This year’s plant sale will be held at the Sealy Historical Park at 211 E. Main St. in Sealy.

SEALY – WC Tractor in Sealy held its open house on March 16 at its Sealy store. The doors swung open to host its customer appreciation dinner and presentation to a lobby full of people. After the social and a great dinner, special guest speaker Regional Program Leader Dr. Philip Shackelford of the Southeast District 9 Ag and Natural Resources presented Let’s Talk About Hay: Most Bale for Your Buck.

COLUMBUS – What started as a three-kilowatt, Class A radio facility in 1972 now puts out 6,000 watts of power at its location off Highway 71 North in Columbus. Owner John L. Labay received permission from the Federal Communications Commission for a construction permit to build a new facility to house the radio equipment and offices in August of 1973. In March of that year, construction began for a brick building.

RESS EAGLE LAKE - Eagle Lake Police Chief Kris Abbott has been suspended effective immediately while an investigation is ongoing about alleged policy violations.

COLUMBUS – Colorado County Chief Appraiser Jonathan Huebner resigned with an effective last day of March 17.

COLUMBUS – A Columbus man has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to to 40 years in the death of 46-year-old Sigsbee W. Thompson, in 2021.

  

The Austin County Fair Junior Fair Board is looking for students to join the board to serve as young leaders and role models in the fair association.

SCHULENBURG – The Schulenburg Lions Club seeks to promote leadership and continuing education by offering Non-Traditional Student Scholarships.

Flatonia Postmaster and resident Michael Joseph McKimm, 44, was arrested for the shooting of a Lavaca County man on March 5.

Many Colorado County residents are trying use their time wisely; being civic minded and learning new things is always an excellent way to be productive. Colorado County is a community created around its river and natural resources while the economy is built on farmers and ranchers. In recent years Colorado County faced local contamination of our own natural resources by big business and many county resources were utilized to stop and prevent future contamination.

FLATONIA – Jumping’ and jivin’ all night long! The Happy Tails Movie Night at the Lyric was a success. The '50s-themed event was held March 9 at the Lyric Theater in Flatonia. All proceeds benefitted the Janssen Ani mal Shelter which serves all of Fayette County.

LA GRANGE - The Fayette Coun ty Country Music Club will host their monthly opry on Monday, March 20 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in La Grange. The show starts at 7 p.m. and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Admis sion is $8.

Justice of Peace Francis Truchard, 81, passed away on March 8, 2023. Truchard will be remembered for many things: a devoted husband, a loving father, a grandfather and a friend to all, even those who fell on the wrong side of the law.

SCHULENBURG – The Stanzel Family Foundation (SFF) is still accepting scholarship applications for the 2022-2023 school year.

RESS BELLVILLE – The Bellville Lions Club “let the good times roll” during its Mardi Gras fundraising event on March 4 at the Austin County Fair Convention and Expo Center in Bellville. The annu-al event sets the mood for projects near and dear to Lion’s community service. Last year, over $90,000 was distributed.
