WALLIS – The Brazos High School football team has been on the rise as they’ve had successful seasons in the past few years under head coach Ryan Roecker. With a solid roster on offense and defense, the play calling and effi ciency is why the Cougars have been so successful under Roecker. He’s also a players coach and the athletes love playing for him in return.

LA GRANGE – fter being the head honcho for the La Grange High School golf team, James Zaruba has decided to take over the baseball duties as head coach for the 2025 season.

COLUMBUS – Cardinals football has been dominant over the last several years under head coach Matt Schobel, who has his son Adam at quarterback and is committed to Oklahoma State University football after transferring from Baylor University.

BELLVILLE – The Bellville High School volleyball team has been consistently successful under head coach Susan Brewer, who has been at Bellville for over four decades, is a winner in all aspects of the game.

Fayetteville chamber hosts monthly gathering

The Weimar Vets hosted the Serbin Jackrabbits on June 16 at Strickland Field in Weimar Falling behind a hot hitting Jackrabbit team 12-2, the Vets scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to tighten the game with a 12-9 score, which proved to be the final score.

COLUMBUS – The State of Texas sought an indictment against Jessy De La Rosa for Credit or Debit Card Abuse.

GLIDDEN – At approximately 12:50 a.m. on May 11, the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 1000 Old McDonald Road in Glidden.

Social media posts have been mounting against the proposed wind energy farm in Fayette County near Schulenburg. This 20,000-plus acreage wind farm will generate 250 megawatts of power, with windmills up to 600 feet tall.

COLUMBUS – At the VVA Chapter 1127 May meeting, six $1,000 scholarships were presented to local Columbus High School seniors. Caleb Rosales will attend TSTC in Waco to become a Biomedical Equipment Technician to help hospitals in need.

Seniors Together celebrate one year anniversary

LA GRANGE – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Of- fice, Fayette County, will offer a food preservation workshop called “Preserving the Harvest” on Friday, June 21, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Fayette County Agricultural Building at 255 Svoboda Ln. in La Grange.

LA GRANGE – The Fayette County Country Music Club will host a special Opry show featuring the opry band members Monday, June 17 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in La Grange. The show starts at 7 p.m., and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $8. Mark Lehmann has been with the opry since its inception. He began playing in local dance bands in 1975 at the age of 15. After a 15 year stint in the Austin Music Scene, he returned to La Grange and Fayette County around 14 years ago.
