SCHULENBURG – Every parent wants the best for their child’s future, and one of the best ways to make sure your child will have a bright future is to be sure that you are correctly using the right car seat for your child and that the seat is correctly installed in your vehicle every time. The problem is that keeping them safe in vehicles isn’t as easy as it might appear.

HEMPSTEAD – Fausto Romero-Lomeli, 37, was indicted by an Austin County Grand Jury for Continuous Sexual Assault of a Child on Nov. 15. An Austin County deputy currently assigned to the US Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender and Fugitive Task Force was given the task of locating and arresting Romero-Lomeli.

BELLVILLE – The Austin County Regional Special Response Team (SRT) executed search warrants and an arrest warrant at a property located in the 4000 block of Coshatte Road, in Bellville on Nov. 29. These warrants were the result of an ongoing narcotics investigation led by the Westside Narcotics Task Force (HIDTA).

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported on the afternoon of Dec. 6 around 1:55 p.m., Drug Interdiction Sgt. Randy Thumann and his Canine partner "KOLT', conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Ford truck pulling a white utility trailer on Interstate- 10 at the 671 mile marker for a traffic violation. Thumann approached the vehicle which was occupied by three individuals.

LA GRANGE – The Fayette County Country Music Club will host their Christmas Opry on Monday, Dec. 18, at the KC Hall in La Grange. The show starts at 7 p.m.. and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $8.

Schulenburg Police Association donates to St. Rose of Lima

COLUMBUS – Jack and Judi Johnson, representatives for the David and Eula Wintermann Foundation handed Julie Prause, president of the Columbus Historical Preservation Trust, $20,000 for the 'Save Our Opera House' capital campaign. This contribution triggered another $20,000 in matching funds for a total of $40,000. Judi's aunt and uncle, David and Eula Wintermann started the foundation in 1984 and have given millions in donations to support medical research and local community needs.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was given an early Christ mas gift when the Woodmen- Life-Muldoon Chapter 302 do - nated $500 to the Deputy Santa program. Members of the sher- iff's office and the Woodmen Life gather together to give the donation.

Eagle Lake seniors attend Christmas dance

COLUMBUS – La Grange boy’s basketball took down Columbus High School Dec. 5 at the Marley Giddens Center in Columbus by a final score of 52-44. As it was a close game at halftime, La Grange found their edge by executing in crunch time with crucial playmaking.

The Bellville High School girl’s basketball team has start- ed their season not too hot, but not too cold either as they hold a record near .500 to start the ’23’24 season.

WALLIS – The Brazos High School boy’s basketball team faced off against Victoria West High School and won handedly by pouring it on in the second half with a final score of 54-30. The game was played Dec. 7 at Brazos Middle School Gym in Wallis and things were pretty close until the second half, when Brazos made shots and found ways to convert at the rim.

PFLUGERVILLE – The Bellville High School football team is heading to Cowboy Stadium in Arlington for the UIL State Football Championship game as they defeated Wimberley High School Dec. 7 in flugerville in thrilling fashion by a final score of 35-33. This was a game where the two teams answered each other’s scores throughout the match and a missed extra point by Wimberley late in the game made a huge difference as the Texans weren’t able to convert on a last second two-point conversion, ultimately sealing the deal for Bellville.
