COLUMBUS – Deputy Santa came to the Colorado County Fairgrounds in Columbus on Dec. 16 and had a steady stream of kids and kids-at-heart take pictures with Santa. The kids received Christmas presents after a visit with Santa. All went jolly well with most of the children. Some took exception to the man in red and some took equal exception to a ne’er do well, the Grinch.

ISB donates to Deputy Santa

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on the morning of Dec. 14 around 9:20 a.m., Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10 at the 663 Mile Marker on a 2015 white Jeep Cherokee SUV for a traffic violation. Upon contact with the driver, several criminal indicators were observed. Smith was given consent to search the vehicle, which was occupied by a male, his wife, and their juvenile son.

GARWOOD – Members of the Austin County Regional Special Response Team (SRT) executed a search warrant and an arrest warrant in Colorado County on Dec. 7.

BELLVILLE - The Austin County Sheriff's Office has been awarded funds through the Texas Department of Transportation’s Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) Program. This will allow the sheriff's office to provide increased patrols within portions of unincorporated Austin County, over the holidays.

Ever since Fayetteville head coach Jake Diggs took over a couple years ago, the chemistry seems like its top notch and they also possess good athletes.

ARLINGTON – The Bellville High School football team barely fell in a close one to Gilmer High School Dec. 15 at AT&T Cowboy Stadium in Arlington by a final score of 28-26. It was an offensive battle as Bellville did their usually running and Gilmer scored mostly through the air in a match that came down to the final seconds of the game.

Rice Raiders boy’s basketball has started the season off hot with a record well above .500 after recently struggling over the past couple years. The Raiders have always been athletic, it’s just been about executing and finding the finesse the put the ball in the rim. Rice has done that in the ’23-’24 season as they’ve won their last five games in a row and also had a seven-game win streak earlier in the season.

EDNA – A mother’s worst fears were realized when her daughter was found stabbed to death lying in a bathtub on Dec. 5 in their Edna home. The victim, Lizbeth Medina, was an Edna High School cheerleader. Her mother made the discovery.
