Social media posts have been mounting against the proposed wind energy farm in Fayette County near Schulenburg. This 20,000-plus acreage wind farm will generate 250 megawatts of power, with windmills up to 600 feet tall.

GLIDDEN – At approximately 12:50 a.m. on May 11, the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 1000 Old McDonald Road in Glidden.

EAGLE LAKE – The 26th Annual Eagle Lake Fireworks Show will be held Wednesday, July 3, beginning at 9:15 p.m., at the traditional Calhoun Road location west of town about a quarter of a mile from Highway 90A in Eagle Lake.

COLUMBUS – The State of Texas sought an indictment against Jessy De La Rosa for Credit or Debit Card Abuse.

LA GRANGE – Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller recently signed a proclamation for National Flag Day at the Fayette County Courthouse in La Grange.

LA GRANGE – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Of- fice, Fayette County, will offer a food preservation workshop called “Preserving the Harvest” on Friday, June 21, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Fayette County Agricultural Building at 255 Svoboda Ln. in La Grange.

WEIMAR – The Friends of the Weimar Public Library and the Texas A&M AgriLife Exten- sion Office of Colorado County will present “Native Grasses and Plants” at the Weimar Public Library from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 21.

EAGLE LAKE – The City of Eagle Lake hosted a town hall meeting on June 6 at the Eagle Lake Community Center. Up for discussion was the federally mandated replacement of lead and galvanized pipes on city service lines. Dyer Schitzkus, LCRR/I program director, was the main speaker.

PRAHA – Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported on June 5, the Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in Praha. The unit had received complaints in reference to narcotics trafficking from this particular residence. The unit carried out an extensive investigation and found probable cause to believe methamphetamine was being dealt from the location.

AUSTIN - Texas Land Com - missioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., announced the Texas Gen - eral Land Office (GLO) approved $31,832,572 in regional mitigation funds to improve communications, streets, drainage and sewer sys- tems in the cities and counties to include Colorado County and the City of La Grange.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported on the morning of June 10 around 8:10 a.m., the Fayette Coun- ty Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting property damage on Gebert Road. near Schulze Road.

The inaugural recipients of the Wanda Johnson Beaudry Stanzel Memorial Scholarship have been officially an nounced. This scholarship, established by Ted Stanzel in partnership with the Stanzel Family Foundation, commemorates the legacy of Wanda Johnson Beaudry Stanzel, who passed away in 2021.

WEST POINT - Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported on May 31 around 11:30 a.m., the Fayette Coun - ty Sheriff's Office received a 911 call re - porting a structure fire on Justice Road off State Highway 71 in West Point. The La Grange Volunteer Fire De - partment was notified and responded to the scene. Fayette County Deputy Seth Nagel and Fayette County EMS Unit Medic 3 also responded to the structure fire. Upon arrival it was reported the house was fully engulfed in flames. The occupants were out of the res - idence and checked out by EMS for smoke inhalation. LG Fire Department requested assis - tance from the Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department who also responded to the scene. The fire was contained to the house and extinguished. Nagle contacted Emergency Management Coordina - tor Angela Hahn, who notified the Red Cross. Information was exchanged with the occupants for help. The fire may have started from an electrical short.

EAGLE LAKE – The 50th annual Eagle Lake Rice Field Day tour is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the David R. Wintermann Rice Research Station on Farm-to-Market Road 102 just north of Eagle Lake, followed by an evening program at the Eagle Lake Community Center located at 100 N. Walnut Ave. in Eagle Lake.
