BELLVILLE–Palm-sized hail rained down upon Bellville on March 15, around 2:45 p.m., shattering windows and destroying vehicles in a freak weather pattern that included straightline winds.

Steamboat Launched. The new steamboat built for Messrs Ward & Co. of Matagorda and intended for the navigation of the Colorado above the raft, was launched on the 21st ULT. She has been christened the Kate Ward. She is 110 feet keel, 24 feet beam, and is calculated to carry 600 bales of cotton in three feet of water; her present draft is only 5 inches.

BELLVILLE–Over 350 cars cruised into downtown Bellville on March 9, and it was a candy store for car enthusiasts during the Classic Car Stampede. It was muscle, muscle, and more muscle as throngs of crowds salivated over the raw power and beauty of cars from days gone by.

WEIMAR – Richard C. Whitten III, 59, was unanimously voted in as the new city manager of Weimar during a regularly scheduled city council meeting on March 4 in Weimar.

NEW ULM – According to Col- orado County Chief Deputy Justin Lindemann, deputies were dispatched to the 1000 block of Jim Bob Lane in New Ulm about an individual being shot on Feb. 28.

COLUMBUS – Jose “Joey” Fe- licano Casanova, of Eagle Lake, was found guilty of murder, Feb. 26 in 25th Judicial District Court at the Colorado County Courthouse in Columbus.

The Columbus Rotary hosted a pancake supper at Columbus High School on Feb 28. Lots of people turned out to have breakfast for din- ner, with a plate of fluffy pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausage that was provided by Kyser's Market, as well as to participate in an auction of desserts, from cookies and tall cakes to muffins and brownies, all to raise money for scholarships for Columbus High School seniors. LA GRANGE – Fayette Electric Cooperative is joining Utilities United Against Scams (UUAS) in supporting the Federal Trade Com mission's (FTC's) annual National Consumer Protection Week, March 3 through March 9, along with more than 100 federal, state, and local agencies; consumer groups; and national advocacy organizations. Utility impostor scammers pretend to represent electric, natural gas, water, and sewer utilities to steal customers' money and personal information. They approach customers through various methods, including texts, phone calls, in-person visits, and emails. Scammers often demand payment and threaten service disconnection, claiming a customer is past due on their utility bill.
