LA GRANGE – The Texas Antique Gas Engine Reunion and Texas Black- smithing Conference fired up its engines and forges on Jan. 27 at the La Grange Fairgrounds in La Grange.

FLATONIA – Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on Jan. 26 the Fayette County Undercover Narcotics Unit initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Flatonia area for a traffic infraction.

LA GRANGE – Whiskers are the thing. No shave and a haircut here during the You Matter 3 Beard and Moustache Competition on Jan. 20 at the La Grange Casino Hall. Fourteen categories of facial hair were judged and a Best in Show.

COLUMBUS – Singer/songwriter Darrel Appelt, DJ at KULM and musician, saw his new record release, Why Wait, climb 12 spots to number 64 in the Texas Regional Radio charts. Breaking the 100 number is a feat in itself, but the song, Why Wait, has touched the hearts and souls of many country-western fans.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Police Department apprehended two suspects from Columbus on Jan. 9 after an active investigation into multiple vehicle burglaries in Columbus.

COLUMBUS –Through a turbulent couple of years, the Colorado County Central Appraisal District seems to have righted the ship and is moving forward to serve the residents of Colorado County. The waters appeared to have calmed with the help of old and new faces.

Brazos High School boy's bas ketball has now reached near the .500 mark as they gained a key player back and are finding their team chemistry. Cougars senior guard Trey Gaston is now back in full force after his leg injury and is picking up his normal duties of floor general.

BELLVILLE – During the overnight hours of Jan. 20, K-9 Officer Andrew Freude and Officer Johari Brown, conduct ed a welfare check on a vehicle parked in the roadway within the 600 block of East Main Street in Bellville. The officers also observed a subject from the car walking from the wood line that is adjacent to the railroad tracks in the same area.

BELLVILLE – An Austin County Jury found Chad Edward Hultquist, formerly of Bellville, guilty of two felony counts of Retaliation in District Judge Jeff Steinhauser’s court on Jan. 10 in Bellville.
