LA GRANGE – Diane Rose, also known as the “Amazing Quilter” will be the guest speaker at the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. at the Randolph Recreaction Center located at 653 E. Pearl St.-Room A East in La Grange.

FAYETTE COUNTY – Sheriff Keith Korenek reports a drastic increase in the number of calls for service for the Fayette County Sheriff's Office for the year 2022.

BELLVILLE – The Bellville Hospital District Board met on Dec. 27, 2022, and approved the ongoing negotiations for a final answer to enter into a contract with a hospital management company and rename the Bellville hospital. The new name, MidCoast Medical Center, is now under the management of MidCoast Health System as of Jan. 1, 2023.

COLUMBUS – Doctors Tyson and Mary Harrell have 45 years of combined dental expertise. They opened from scratch and built a successful dental practice in the Sugar Land/ Richmond area. Years ago, “the country” started calling and they bought their place in Columbus and fell in love with the area.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Wellness Center is introducing its Be Well Weight Loss program.

LA GRANGE – Fayette County residents living along Country Club Drive and River Road got a belated Christmas gift this week. Demolition on two of the homes impacted by Hurricane Harvey has started, with three more pieces of property scheduled for closings next week.

LA GRANGE – The Fayette County Country Music Club will host a Polka Show Monday, Jan. 16 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in La Grange. The show starts at 7 p.m. and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $8.

EAGLE LAKE – The city of Eagle Lake set a town hall meeting to address questions from its citizens about the Endeavors project. The meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 6 p.m. at the Eagle Lake Community Center at 100 N. Walnut Ave. in Eagle Lake.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Chamber of Commerce received a proclamation from Governor Greg Abbott for Columbus, marking 200 years in existence and its upcoming Bicentennial Celebration.

LA GRANGE – Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller and Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Angela Hahn convened a meeting of Fayette County Leaders on Jan. 4. at the EMS building in La Grange.

AUSTIN COUNTY – New stop signs will be installed on Farm-to-Market Road 949 and Farm-to-Market Road 1094 with work planned for Tuesday, Jan. 10 depending on weather conditions.

LA GRANGE – Applications are now being accepted for the 2023 Bluebonnet Master Gardener Intern Class which will be held in La Grange. For anyone interested in participating in the Master Gardener training program, the deadline for signing up is Thursday, Jan. 19. There is a fee of $200 per participant, which will cover the cost of materials and defray speaker expenses. An application must be completed and turned in with the fee in order to be considered registered. Class size is limited. The classes will be held on Thursday mornings beginning on January 19, and continuing through April 20.

LA GRANGE – Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on Dec. 12, 2022, the Fayette County Narcotics Unit served a search warrant at the Carter Motel in La Grange about narcotics being sold from one of its rooms.

SCHULENBURG – Fayette County Narcotics Unit, Austin County Regional Special Response Team, and the HIDTA Drug Task Force served a Felony 1 Manufacture/ Delivery of a Controlled Substance warrant Dec. 14, 2022, on a male subject at the Pilot truck stop in Schulenburg.

SCHULENBURG – Schulen- burg police officers responded to the Schulenburg Dairy Queen for a report of a vehicle driving recklessly that was currently at the Dairy Queen location on Dec.

FLATONIA - The Fayette County Sheriff's Office stopped a ve - hicle for a traffic violation near Flatonia at about midnight on Dec. 22, 2022. Upon further investigation, Deputy Austin Moore found meth, Xanax, marijuana, Adderall and drug paraphernalia inside the driver’s vehicle.

It doesn’t seem that long ago, but 1968 is over 50 years long and the sound and sight of The Triumphs still ring in my ear. Well, the ringing in my ear could’ve come from standing right next to huge speakers stacked on one another when The Triumphs took to the stage. I started entering early manhood and rock and roll with the band that would be forever in my mind.
