The death of a Leander High School graduate from a fentanyl overdose has prompted state Rep.

COLUMBUS – The Colorado County Wildlife Management Association (CCWMA) held its annual banquet and meeting March 18 at the Columbus Hall in Columbus. The program for this year centered on Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) with Allan Cain, leader for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Whitetail Deer Program for the state.

SEALY – The Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association will host its annual plant sale Saturday, April 8, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. or when sold out. This year’s plant sale will be held at the Sealy Historical Park at 211 E. Main St. in Sealy.

SEALY – WC Tractor in Sealy held its open house on March 16 at its Sealy store. The doors swung open to host its customer appreciation dinner and presentation to a lobby full of people. After the social and a great dinner, special guest speaker Regional Program Leader Dr. Philip Shackelford of the Southeast District 9 Ag and Natural Resources presented Let’s Talk About Hay: Most Bale for Your Buck.

SEALY – The tiny little chefs at Sealy Elementary School have completed their gardening program. Early Childhood-Learn Grow Eat Go, has exposed these participants to many wonderful opportunities over the last two months.

The Lady Horns softball team has earned an overall record above the .500 mark under head coach Gilbert Price at 9-5 with a handful of early wins and recently defeating Moulton and Flatonia, which are both teams in the same district. Schulenburg beat Moulton 20-4 and beat Flatonia 11-3.

The Fayetteville High School baseball team won by a wide margin March 14 and 15 as they defeated Somerville in both matches by scores of 13-0 and 25-4. Lions junior Reid Gross drove in four RBI's during the first game while freshman Jack Schley added two and junior Keagan Supak knocked in one.

Lady Cardinals volleyball player Claire Klausmeyer has been lighting it up in club ball after helping lead Columbus to a state tournament last season.

It has been revealed that there are even more powerlifters from the tri-county area who will compete in the state powerlifting meet. Rice has three lifters who quali- fied in Vanessa Marquez, Raegan Nelson, and Bradi Freeman. Maruqez is in the 114 weight class with a squat of 295, bench press of 120, and 260 deadlift for a 675 total. Nelson is in the 132 weight class with a squat of 300, bench press of 140, and 300 deadlift for a 740 total. Freeman is in the 148 weight class with a 325 squat, 180 bench press, and 295 deadlift for a total of 800.

LA GRANGE – The La Grange High School softball team pounded Manor New Tech High School March 13 at Lady Leopards Field in La Grange by a final score of 18-2. La Grange's bats were in full effect and their pitching was also stellar in a blowout win.

SEALY – The Tigers base - ball team defeated Bellville High School March 14 at Aubrey Stuessel Field in Sealy by a final score of 9-0. The Sealy pitching was superb and they were able to get timely hits when they needed them. "What was great, was we had

COLUMBUS – What started as a three-kilowatt, Class A radio facility in 1972 now puts out 6,000 watts of power at its location off Highway 71 North in Columbus. Owner John L. Labay received permission from the Federal Communications Commission for a construction permit to build a new facility to house the radio equipment and offices in August of 1973. In March of that year, construction began for a brick building.

RESS EAGLE LAKE - Eagle Lake Police Chief Kris Abbott has been suspended effective immediately while an investigation is ongoing about alleged policy violations.

COLUMBUS – A Columbus man has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to to 40 years in the death of 46-year-old Sigsbee W. Thompson, in 2021.

  

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Garden Club had a 'Trash-Off Kick Off' March 2, and began the clean-up of an area of the city park at Midtown Park in Columbus.

GONZALES– The Columbus Cub Scout Pack 312 loaded up and ventured to Palmetto State Park in Gonzales this past weekend to learn basic skills and have fun doing it.

LA GRANGE – The Fayette County Commissioners Court convened on March 9 to hold its regularly scheduled meeting. The court issued a proclamation recognizing April 2023 as Autism Acceptance Month in Fayette County.
