SEALY – Court St. Elizabeth #1616, of Sealy Immaculate Con ception Catholic Church, will host its annual turkey and dressing dinner Sunday, March 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sealy Columbus Hall (KC Hall) at 1310 Highway 90 West in Sealy.

I want to recognize the vision of the Nes bitt Memorial Library Foundation and Library Boards and the support of the Mayor, City Council, and many City colleagues and Friends of the Library. Jessica Commanda, Eric Braden, Su- san Archuletta and Cody Graves have provided stability to our patrons and done a lot of work through all of our phases!

BELLVILLE – The Extension Education Association of Austin County (EEAAC) sponsored a soup, sandwich, and dessert meal at the Austin County Fair Convention and Expo Cen - ter in Bellville in honor of the Austin County Commissioners

COLUMBUS – The Colum- bus Cardinal Belles took first place in all three routines during the Showtime International Competition Feb. 18 in Corpus Christi.

COLUMBUS–The Colum- bus Business Revitalization Grant (CBRG) is an extension of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, and its purpose is to empower chamber members to enhance and improve their businesses and non-profits. All chamber members, in good standing with the chamber, were eligible to apply for grants up to $5,000.

Ash Wednesday fish fry cookin' good

LOCKHART – The Columbus High School boys basketball team escaped with a close win vs Randolph High School at Lockhart ISD Gym Feb. 21 by a final score of 57-55. Columbus had control for most of the game and Randolph slowly but surely creeped back in the contest. The Cardinals gritty performance down the stretch led them to the win. “We know basketball’s a game of runs,” said Columbus interim head boys basketball coach Lowell Narcisse. Cardinals head coach Troy Bohac missed the game due to an illness.

The Varsity boys of Faith Academy took out to Round Rock Sports Complex to take play in the TAIAO State Tournament Feb. 17 ant 18.

BELLVILLE – Brahmas boys soccer scraped out a victory February 24 at Brahmas Stadium by a final score of 2-1. Bellville struck first with a goal later in the first half that was matched by Hempstead about midway through the second half, then Bellville netted a clutch goal in the final minutes to protect home field. "I don't think we played particularly well,” said Bellville head boys soccer coach Ben Powell.

KATY – The La Grange High School boys basket- ball team put up a good fight against Yates High School Feb. 20 at Katy High School, but were defeated by a final score of 78-62. The Lions quick offense and pressure on defense gave them the slight edge, but La Grange was able to hang tough with scoring from their premier players. "I was just contemplating whether or not are we gonna be able to get into our offenses,” said La Grange head boys basketball coach David Cooper.

SEALY – First-year Sealy girls varsity basketball coach Brateicka Mock recently won the Class 4A District 25 Coach of the Year award for her impressive 22-23 season.

LA GRANGE – La Grange High School hired Kyle Cooper last Friday as their new head football coach and athletic director. Cooper previously coached at Ponder High School and led the country in passing yards per game with an average of 425 passing yards per game. He was also an assistant coach at Mount Vernon High School in 2019 and 2020 under former Baylor University head coach Art Briles.

BELLVILLE – The Austin County Grand Jury has reviewed the incident at the Lindemann Store in Industry, and determined that no criminal charges should be filed.

BELLVILLE– During a townhall meeting recently held in Bellville, Pastor JR Johnson told the crowd of about 50 people that the incident involving Betty Smith and the employees at the Lindemann Store in Industry on Jan. 15 was being brought to the attention of the FBI.

RESS SEALY – The Friends of Sealy American Legion Post #442 know how to throw a party! Casino Royal, in its second annual run, was held at the Sealy American Legion Post #442 in Sealy on Feb. 18. The doors opened to a waiting crowd of lucky gamblers set on a good time for a good cause.
