SEALY – As the betting chips were flying and the cards were being dealt, the crowd at the American Legion Hall in Sealy was in for some serious gambling at the 3rd Annual Casino Royal Night. Win, lose, or draw; it was for a worthy cause to benefit so many. The Sealy American Legion Post 442, Friends of Sealy American Legion, and Charitable Heroes Achieving Memorable Performances (C.H.A.M.P) charitable donations raise the stakes to $600,000.

WEIMAR – The Weimar FFA Sale was held Feb. 10 at the Weimar FFA Project Facility in Weiamr. The sale brought in $161,135 which was $1,164 less that last year’s total of $162,299, with this year breaking four records.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Chamber of Commerce is looking for high school students eager to serve their community as junior ambassadors. The seventh annual Junior Ambassador Scholarship Award is now accepting applicants. The award recipient will be able to become involved in city-wide events and represent the community. You will help support and promote business to advance economic vitality and quality of life for the entire community.

BELLVILLE – Recently, the Extension Education Association of Austin County hosted its annual 2024 Cultural Arts Contest. The event was coordinated by the Cultural Arts Committee, which was co-chaired by Barney Zimmerman of Bleiblerville EEA and Gaye Farr of West End EEA. Committee members in- clude – Malinda Schramm, Clau dia Cieslewicz and Joan Buenger. The Cultural Arts Contest allows members to exhibit knowledge and skills that express individualism and creativity.

Bellville girl’s basketball made progress in the ’24 season as they posted a near .500 overall record for the year. Second-year head coach Mike Dewitz knows basketball like the back of his hand with plenty of experience, as basketball runs in his family with his dad being selected 19th overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 1958 NBA Draft. Dewitz has also worked plenty of camps at the high school and college level.

BELLVILLE – The Bellville Lions Club will be hosting a fundraiser with the theme of Six Flags over Texas. With this event comes a worthy outcome as it benefits its local charitable giving. The Bellville Lions Club gives to charities in a big way.

The Green Door Fund for Workforce Development and Education, an internal program of the Fayette Community Foundation, is committed to providing job awareness, training, and career opportunities to local students and young adults in Fayette County and the surrounding rural region. Emphasizing alternatives to traditional college education, the fund aims to support local students who represent the overlooked and underserved 38% of high school graduates in the U.S. who do not pursue college, along with the 16% who do not graduate high school. Led by an Advisory Council comprised of noted and trusted members of our community, The Green Door Fund is working towards enhancing the quality of life for all members of our rural region by helping our youth find mean ingful employment and our busi- nesses find the staff they need to operate successfully.

The Rice High School boy’s basketball team has kept their great season going with tons of athletes and great coaching. Head coach John Hunter knows basketball and knows how to get the most out of his players. It also helps that the majority of his team is made up of skilled players with top-notch athleticism.
