Bellville girl’s basketball made progress in the ’24 season as they posted a near .500 overall record for the year. Second-year head coach Mike Dewitz knows basketball like the back of his hand with plenty of experience, as basketball runs in his family with his dad being selected 19th overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 1958 NBA Draft. Dewitz has also worked plenty of camps at the high school and college level.

The Green Door Fund for Workforce Development and Education, an internal program of the Fayette Community Foundation, is committed to providing job awareness, training, and career opportunities to local students and young adults in Fayette County and the surrounding rural region. Emphasizing alternatives to traditional college education, the fund aims to support local students who represent the overlooked and underserved 38% of high school graduates in the U.S. who do not pursue college, along with the 16% who do not graduate high school. Led by an Advisory Council comprised of noted and trusted members of our community, The Green Door Fund is working towards enhancing the quality of life for all members of our rural region by helping our youth find mean ingful employment and our busi- nesses find the staff they need to operate successfully.

My husband, Peter, and I landed in Mexico again, and we did what we have done in the past. We bought an enormous cake. It's nice to have a cake in the house. I have discovered it is not necessarily a good idea to eat cake every day, as it eventually makes my clothes too small. Alone for several days in the dull “monotony of a narrow jail cell,” as he described it, King penned a letter that has been described as one of the most important historical documents ever written. Considered a classic treatise on civil disobedience, it is perhaps one of the most beautifully crafted and eloquent letters ever composed. Every American should read it.
