Meet and Greet held in Weimar
WEIMAR - Weimar City Manag - er Richard Whitten and Weimar Police Chief Mark Jameson were on hand to meet Weimar residents and answer any questions May 30 at the Weimar Cham - ber Bash. Whitten came on board in early March of this year after a months-long search for a city manager since June 2023. Jameson took over the reigns of the Weimar Police Department in October 2023 and brings with him community policing policies. Weimar Mayor Milton Koller attend - ed and discussed the potential future of Weimar.

Fire consumes residence
WEST POINT - Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported on May 31 around 11:30 a.m., the Fayette Coun - ty Sheriff's Office received a 911 call re - porting a structure fire on Justice Road off State Highway 71 in West Point. The La Grange Volunteer Fire De - partment was notified and responded to the scene. Fayette County Deputy Seth Nagel and Fayette County EMS Unit Medic 3 also responded to the structure fire. Upon arrival it was reported the house was fully engulfed in flames. The occupants were out of the res - idence and checked out by EMS for smoke inhalation. LG Fire Department requested assis - tance from the Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department who also responded to the scene. The fire was contained to the house and extinguished. Nagle contacted Emergency Management Coordina - tor Angela Hahn, who notified the Red Cross. Information was exchanged with the occupants for help. The fire may have started from an electrical short.

Austin County schools participate in Safety Day
BELLVILLE – The 2024 Annual Youth and Safety Day event was held May 21 at the Austin County Fairgrounds in Bellville and was a collaborative effort to address the safety concerns of youth. COLUMBUS – The Columbus Duck Derby held May 18 was a quacky-good success providing entertainment for a cheering crowd at Beason’s Landing on the Colorado in Columbus. 3,000 rubber ducks were dropped from the bridge–all in unison– and floated to the finish line with a big boom containing the mass of yellow at the end of the derby.
