AUSTIN – The UIL baseball state all-tournament teams (as selected by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association). MVP was selected by media.

EAGLE LAKE – The annual Back to School Bash in Eagle Lake is scheduled for Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Eagle Lake Community Center at 100 N. Walnut Ave.

COLLEGE STATION – Rice football has shown more progress even before the season has started as they've qualified for the 7 on 7 state tournament.

•Most Valuable Player – Jack Schley, Fayetteville.

WEIMAR – The Weimar High School basketball team has very much improved under head coach Jakob Rehak by almost doubling their win total from the year before.

•Most Valuable Player – Titan Targac, Flatonia, (Unanimous).

SCHULENBURG – Schulenburg volleyball has been elite under head coach Donald Zapalac, who’s sent many of his players on to the college level and is recently coming off a state tournament appearance.

CARMINE – Cubettes volleyball has had a lot of success in recent years under head coach Catie Carney as they’ve been on the cusp of a state tournament a bunch of times in the last few years. This team has athletes and a system that is based on attacking as well as solid defense.

BELLVILLE – Bellville head football coach and athletic director Grady Rowe is not only the all-time winningest head coach in program history, he recently brought his team to Jerry World at Cowboy Stadium to face off in the UIL State Football Championship after an undefeated regular season. Rowe has sent a ton of players to division one football such as Richard Reese, Robert Briggs, and currently has fourstar 2025 prospect D.J. Sanders on his team as a lineman, who has 18 total division one offers with the majority of them being power five schools.

The Weimar Vets hosted the Serbin Jackrabbits on June 16 at Strickland Field in Weimar Falling behind a hot hitting Jackrabbit team 12-2, the Vets scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to tighten the game with a 12-9 score, which proved to be the final score.

WALLIS – The Brazos High School football team has been on the rise as they’ve had successful seasons in the past few years under head coach Ryan Roecker. With a solid roster on offense and defense, the play calling and effi ciency is why the Cougars have been so successful under Roecker. He’s also a players coach and the athletes love playing for him in return.

LA GRANGE – fter being the head honcho for the La Grange High School golf team, James Zaruba has decided to take over the baseball duties as head coach for the 2025 season.

COLUMBUS – Cardinals football has been dominant over the last several years under head coach Matt Schobel, who has his son Adam at quarterback and is committed to Oklahoma State University football after transferring from Baylor University.

BELLVILLE – The Bellville High School volleyball team has been consistently successful under head coach Susan Brewer, who has been at Bellville for over four decades, is a winner in all aspects of the game.

Brahmanettes volleyball will be ready for another shot at the state tournament come August as they’ve been to the dance in previous years under hall of fame head coach Susan Brewer. They’ll also have outside hitter Sydney McKay, who brings energy to the team along with pure athleticism and even has college ball potential. Bellville is known for having a collective unit where all members fo the team contribute in some kind of way.

By Coach Larry “Bear” Kana WEIMAR – The Weimar Vets hosted the Shiner Clippers Sunday at Strickland Field in Weimar to pick up the win 17-12. After being down 2-1 from the first inning, the Vets outscored the Clippers 12-1 the next four innings. The Clippers battled back to close the gap to 13-8, but the Vets basically put the game away in the eighth, scoring four runs. Leading the offensive attack was Alex Angerstein- triple, double, two singles, five RBI's, two HBP's, five runs scored, two SB’s.

The Columbus High School football team is known for winning at an elite level and it looks as though they’ll continue the same path in the ’24 season. Head coach Matt Schobel is a proven winner, NFL veteran, and loves his alma mater as a former Cardinal. He also has is son, Adam, who’s an incoming junior at quarterback and throws a nearly perfect ball out of the backfield. Columbus has kept a solid roster with disciplined players who know what it takes to win games.
