Gedenke: Making the best out of rainy day
WEIMAR – Nothing comes between rural fun time and barbecue. Gedenke could have been a washout with the heavy rains that whipped through on the morning of Gedenke on May 13. However, the barbecue pits kept smokin’ and the kids and kidsat- heart came out as soon as the sun peeked from the clouds.

Theatrical play pays tribute to Columbus
RESS COLUMBUS –The historic Stafford Opera House in Columbus had a full house on May 7, when several hundred people attended another celebration for the Columbus bicentennial birthday. The gathering was a birthday party with a play, a beautiful cake, and a punch! The play was appropriately titled, 'Happy Birthday, Columbus!' It was set as a fifth-grade classroom with students giving reports about the history of Columbus and some Texas history. It featured local actors such as Mayor Lori An Gobert as the principal, Dr. Kirk Anderson as the superintendent, and Mark Candela as the teacher. The fid - gety and silly fifth-grade students were played by Ann Butler, Ester Chandler, Gary Chandler, John Crews, John Isbell, Shirley Isbell, Steve McCullough, Kathy Salguero, James Yearwood, and Bob Stiles with his dog, Beamer.

Michelle Lowrance receives certificate of achievement
Colorado County Auditor Michelle Lowrance accepted a certificate of achievement on May 8 presented by Colorado County Judge Ty Prause during the Colorado County Commissioners Court in Columbus. The certificate was presented to Colorado County for Achievement of Excellence in Financial Reporting. It was presented to Colorado County for its Annual Comprehensive Financial report for the fiscal year ending Dec 31, 2021. The award read in part, 'We are pleased to notify you of this certificate of Achievement. This is the highest level of achievement for governmental financial reporting.'

Two more murals to be completed this week
COLUMBUS – Anyone driving around Columbus these days must have seen one or two new murals going up in the Downtown area. The first is on the side of the Tri-County Realty - Double G Realty Group building on Milam Street across from the County Courthouse. The other is at the entrance to the newly named “Artist Alley,” in the 500 block of Walnut Street.

Fayette Community Foundation presents $40,000 grant to Fayette County EMS Station
LA GRANGE – The Fayette Community Foundation (FCF) is pleased to announce that it administered a $40,000 designated grant on behalf of an anonymous donor to the Fayette County EMS on April 12. The grant will be used to support the newly built Station 4 in Schulenburg and enhance EMS’s mission of providing high-quality emergency medical services to the residents of Fayette County.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a very important focus for Colorado County because there are a good number of citizens who are living miserable lives with Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Suicidal Thoughts, Phobias, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Substance Addictions, Eating Disorders, lack of hope, lack of joy, medications that aren’t working and lack of money or transportation in order to receive treatment.
