WEIMAR – It can be said in several different ways but the one way not to forget Gedenke in Weimar is to mark it on your calendar right now as the day approaches from May 11 to May 13. This Gedenke is sure to please as it pulls out the stops to celebrate 150 years of Weimar Gastfreundschaft!

Unofficial results have been tabulated and posted for Austin, Colorado and Fayette counties. Each may canvas the results and declare official re sults which may take several weeks to complete.

YOAKUM – The Schulenburg Shorthorn JV Band, under the direction of Assistant Director of Bands Fabian Weirich, on May 6 competed at the 11th annual Yoakum Bulldog Invitational.

COLUMBUS – All kindergarten– third grade teachers and principals are required to complete Reading Academies by 2023.

The month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month and as such Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek is pleased to report that from April 20 through the 22 a number of deputies and local police department officers were able to attend the Texas Crisis Intervention Team Association conference in Sugar Land. The conference provides an opportunity to network with other law enforcement agencies and mental/behavioral health providers to share and learn from each other’s approaches to handling mental health crises and treatment in their different areas.

BELLVILLE – The Austin County Fair Association has announced rules for the Home Economic entries for this year’s fair in October.

LA GRANGE - The Fayette County Country Music Club will host their monthly Opry Monday, May 15 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in La Grange. The show starts at 7 p.m. and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is Larry Waddell grew up in Bernardo. His early influences in music were Elvis Presley and Earnest Tubb because these were his dad’s favorites. His brother and he started a band when he was 14 and even recorded a 45 record. He is currently working on recording an album of original songs with Van Lange music in Houston.

COLUMBUS – There was hardly a cloud in the sky but the thunder of exhaust pipes coming from souped-up trucks and tractors made it sound like all heck was breaking loose - and the crowd loved it. The weather was great, the trucks and tractors were fantastic and the stands were packed.

Colorado County 4-H’ers compete in District Photo Contest

BELLVILLE – Hats and hospitality are big in Texas but during the Derby party at High Noon Saloon in Bellville on May 6 was even bigger! The High Noon Saloon was packed for the second year in a row with a Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby Party. The band was adorable and the saloon was full of good music and lots of food, mint juleps and laughter.

CAT SPRING - The 73rd annual meeting of the Austin County Livestock Association will be held on Thursday, June 1, at the Cat Spring Agricultural Hall in Cat Spring.

BASTROP – About 450 Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative members and guests filled The Silos on 77 event center in Giddings on May 9, for the co-op's Annual Meeting.

BELLVILLE – It was the cat’s pajamas at the Bellville Chamber of Commerce 100th Jubilee Celebration on May 4 in Bellville.

BELLVILLE – Travis Koehn, Criminal District Attorney for Austin County, announced that a jury sentenced Damien Eveline, 44, of Sealy, to 60 years in the Texas Department of Corrections. The jury found Eveline guilty of tampering with evidence and a Habitual Felony Offender under the law.

COLUMBUS – Colorado County Commissioners Court met on Monday, May 8, for their regular meeting. However, it was far from regular.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on April 25, Fayette County Dispatch received a call about a medical emergency. The individual in question is the sole caretaker of an adult autistic family member with no known family or friends anywhere nearby.
