Bellville Brahmas punches ticket to Jerry World in barn burning win vs Wimberley
PFLUGERVILLE – The Bellville High School football team is heading to Cowboy Stadium in Arlington for the UIL State Football Championship game as they defeated Wimberley High School Dec. 7 in flugerville in thrilling fashion by a final score of 35-33. This was a game where the two teams answered each other’s scores throughout the match and a missed extra point by Wimberley late in the game made a huge difference as the Texans weren’t able to convert on a last second two-point conversion, ultimately sealing the deal for Bellville.

La Grange falls to Wharton in boy's basketball
WHARTON – The La Grange High School boy’s basketball team was defeated by Wharton High School Nov. 27 at Tigers Gym by a final score of 66-58. La Grange hung tough with Wharton throughout this match, but Wharton's athleticism and ability to get to the basket was a little too much for the Leopards. “I felt like we needed to be able to play the way we played in that second half,” said La Grange head boy’s basketball coach Trent Collier.

CONROE - The Bellville High School football team is strolling to the state semifinals with a huge win against Jasper High School Dec. 1 at Woodforest Bank Stadium in Conroe with a final score of 31-7. Jasper made things close in the first half until Bellville settled in and played their normal game of running the football and forcing turnovers to win the contest handedly.

Fayetteville boy’s hoops holds off Weimar with big fourth quarter
WEIMAR – Fayetteville boy’s basketball traveled to Weimar High School Nov. 28 to take on the Wildcats at Wildcats Gym in Weimar and went home with a win by a final score of 70-46. This was a close game all the way until the fourth quarter when the Lions went on a scoring tear due to their feisty defense and fast break offense to secure a big win.

Tribe officially signs with UTSA volleyball
Columbus volleyball star Ally Tribe recently signed with the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) volleyball team after she made her verbal commitment during her junior year. Tribe made the signature happen Nov. 8, about a week before Columbus headed to their third straight state tournament appearance.

LA GRANGE – The La Grange High School boy’s basketball team defeated Schulenburg High School Nov. 20 at Leopards Gym by a final score of 60-39. La Grange surged out to a big lead in the first half and the Shorthorns cut into the lead in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as the Leopards continued to produce on the offensive end.

Cardinals football hangs on for playoff win vs Woodville
MADISONVILLE – Columbus football kept their postseason train rolling as they took down Woodville High School by a final score of 24-7 Nov. 17 at Madisonville High School’s Mustang Stadium. The Cardinals didn’t score as much as they have throughout the regular season, but they scored enough to come out with a solid win and also did it by stepping up to the plate on defense. “There’s no opportunity for a ‘my bad’ or a second chance,” said Columbus head football coach Matt Schobel on the team’s playoff mindset.

Lady Horns ousted in state tourney by Iola in four sets
GARLAND – The Schulenburg High School volleyball team fell to Iola High School in the semifinal round of the UIL State Volleyball Tournament Nov. 15 at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland by a fi nal score of 19-25, 20-25, 25-19, 2225. As this game was pretty evenly matched, Iola found ways to put the ball down and produce a little more offense in order to come out with the win. “I think Iola being as good as they are, they make it hard for you to settle in,” said Schulenburg head volleyball coach Donald Zapalac.

Lady Cardinals volleyball comes up just short to Gunter in five set state thriller
GARLAND – Columbus volleyball took Gunter High School down to the wire in an event that went five sets, where Gunter came out on top by a final score of 14-25, 25-23, 27- 25, 22-25, 12-15 Nov. 16 at the Curtis Culwell Center. Columbus went up two sets to one and had control, then Gunter stormed back in the final two sets that ended up to be nail biters.
