Faith Academy Knights season at 4-8
The Faith Academy Knights Basketball season has begun and the Knights are sitting at 4-8. The season started with wins over Banff and Round Top-Carmine. The Knights then competed in the Somerville Tournament losing to Somerville, Hempstead White and Somerville JV. Over the Christmas break, the Knights played Aristoi Classical and Burton, losing to both. On Jan. 4, the Knights defeated Still Creek Christian. This past Saturday, Jan. 6, they competed in the Banff Tournament going 1-3. Defeating Banff and losing to Pasadena Faith, Humble Christian and the Connection School.

The Bellville High School boy’s basketball team has begun the season at 3-4 after a domi- nant win over Giddings in its first game of the season, but then lost their last three games in a row to El Campo, Sealy, and Somerville.

Flatonia holds off Shiner in close match
FLATONIA – Bulldogs boy’s basketball added a mark to the win column Jan. 5 at Bulldogs Gym by defeating Shiner High School with a final score of 72-67. After trailing early, Flatonia found their rhythm in a game that went down to the wire and controlled most of the second half with penetration towards the rim and keeping Shiner’s offense to a minimum. “It boiled down to us executing in the clutch,” said Flatonia head boy’s basketball coach Chris Sodek.

Rice boy's basketball off to impressive start
Rice Raiders boy’s basketball has started the season off hot with a record well above .500 after recently struggling over the past couple years. The Raiders have always been athletic, it’s just been about executing and finding the finesse the put the ball in the rim. Rice has done that in the ’23-’24 season as they’ve won their last five games in a row and also had a seven-game win streak earlier in the season.

Bellville football falls just short to Gilmer in state championship thriller
ARLINGTON – The Bellville High School football team barely fell in a close one to Gilmer High School Dec. 15 at AT&T Cowboy Stadium in Arlington by a final score of 28-26. It was an offensive battle as Bellville did their usually running and Gilmer scored mostly through the air in a match that came down to the final seconds of the game.

Lions boy’s basketball is on a much similar pace as they were last year with a double digit win column and some of the wins being in blowout fashion. Brazos handles Victoria West with big second half
WALLIS – The Brazos High School boy’s basketball team faced off against Victoria West High School and won handedly by pouring it on in the second half with a final score of 54-30. The game was played Dec. 7 at Brazos Middle School Gym in Wallis and things were pretty close until the second half, when Brazos made shots and found ways to convert at the rim.
