BRENHAM – The Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association (BMGA) announces that registration is open for its 2024 Mas- ter Gardener Certification Train ing Class to be held in Brenham. A couple handfuls of athletes from the area have qualified for the UIL State Cross Country Meet, which will be held at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock on Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that on the morning of Oct. 30 deputies responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle parked at a business in the Flatonia area.

WHARTON – The Bellville High School football team pounded Wharton High School at Eddie Joseph Memorial Stadium in Wharton in a shutout win Oct. 27 by a final score of 72-0.

UIL 1A- 4A REGION 4 MEET

WEIMAR - The Weimar High School football team defeated Flatonia High School in blowout fashion by a final score of 31-0 Oct. 27 at Wildcats Field. Flatonia struggled to get any offense going and Weimar was able to move the ball down the field on the majority of their offensive possessions, which led to a finish of the job by reaching the end zone and scoring points. "With the playoffs on the line, a team that we're 20 minutes away from, kind of a rival with us, just awesome," said Weimar head football coach Wade Griffin.

Six athletes from the tri-county area have earned spots on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Girls Best and Brightest Awards list. These awards are presented to fe-male athletes who are seniors and have at least a 3.5 unweighted or 4.0 weighted grade point average during their junior year and play in at least 50% of the varsity team's matches during the season.

ROUND TOP – Cubettes volleyball smoked McDade High School Oct. 24 at Cubs Gym by a final score of 25-6, 25-17, 25-9. The sweep consisted of Carmine taking advantage of their skill and executing on offense to overpower a McDade team that just couldn't hang with the Cubettes on senior night. "It's a nice night when you can celebrate six kiddos who have done a lot for your program," said Round Top-Carmine head volleyball coach Catie Weishuhn.

FLATONIA – It got hot and heavy at Czhilispiel 51 in Flatonia during the weekend of Oct. 27. The barbecue pits were belching smoke and the jalapeño contest eaters were belching fire! There was something for everyone to do between the opening and the closing of the gates.

GLIDDEN – The Colorado Coun- ty Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the Westside Narcotics Task Force on Oct. 20 in reference to an active investigation at a residence in Glidden.
