WALLIS – The Brazos High School football team has been on the rise as they’ve had successful seasons in the past few years under head coach Ryan Roecker. With a solid roster on offense and defense, the play calling and effi ciency is why the Cougars have been so successful under Roecker. He’s also a players coach and the athletes love playing for him in return.

Izzy Reeves makes softball legacy team for Weimar
Weimar softball player Izzy Reeves recently earned herself a spot on the TGCA 2023-2024 Softball Legacy Team in Class 2A. Reeves was on last year’s state title team and even made the state tournament the year before as this was her senior year in ’24.

Fayetteville Lions makes it to state title game then falls to Ira
ROUND ROCK – The Fayetteville baseball team made it to another state title game at Dell Diamond, but went down in the 2024 UIL Class 1A State Semifinal championship game. On June 5, the Lions matched up with Abbott High School and put their bats on display, so much that they won the game by mercy rule with a final score of 19-6.

Vets win home opener
By Coach Larry “Bear” Kana WEIMAR – The Weimar Vets hosted the Shiner Clippers Sunday at Strickland Field in Weimar to pick up the win 17-12. After being down 2-1 from the first inning, the Vets outscored the Clippers 12-1 the next four innings. The Clippers battled back to close the gap to 13-8, but the Vets basically put the game away in the eighth, scoring four runs. Leading the offensive attack was Alex Angerstein- triple, double, two singles, five RBI's, two HBP's, five runs scored, two SB’s.

Columbus Cardinals looks to maintain football dominance
The Columbus High School football team is known for winning at an elite level and it looks as though they’ll continue the same path in the ’24 season. Head coach Matt Schobel is a proven winner, NFL veteran, and loves his alma mater as a former Cardinal. He also has is son, Adam, who’s an incoming junior at quarterback and throws a nearly perfect ball out of the backfield. Columbus has kept a solid roster with disciplined players who know what it takes to win games.

Bellville Brahmanettes keeps eyes on state tourney for volleyball
Brahmanettes volleyball will be ready for another shot at the state tournament come August as they’ve been to the dance in previous years under hall of fame head coach Susan Brewer. They’ll also have outside hitter Sydney McKay, who brings energy to the team along with pure athleticism and even has college ball potential. Bellville is known for having a collective unit where all members fo the team contribute in some kind of way.

Ganado takes Flatonia in game one in best of three
HALLETTSVILLE – Flatonia High School baseball went down to Ganado High School May 30 at Brahmas Field in Hal- lettsville by a final score of 5-4 in extra innings. A back and forth ball game with both teams performing well on offense and defense led to extra innings and a walk off run for Ganado.

The Flatonia Bulldog baseball team survived a best of three series vs the Ganado Indians this past weekend to clinch a birth in the 2024 UIL State Tournament for Class 2A. This Regional Championship marathon of a series proved to be all it was built up to be.

Lions sweeps series with D’Hanis in thriller, heads back to state
KENEDY – Fayetteville baseball is heading to the 2024 UIL state tournament for Class 1A again after a barnburner with D’Hanis High School May 29 at Joe Gulley Park in Kenedy by a final score of 9-8. Both teams battled it out until the very end and it was Fayetteville’s big bats, along with lights out pitching in the last inning to seal the win.

Weimar’s Maupin wins NFHS sectional coach of the year
Weimar head softball coach Roger Maupin recently landed the NFHS Network’s Sectional Coach of the Year award for the 2022-2023 season after winning the state title in the same year. It was Weimar’s second state tournament appearance in a row under Maupin.

Schulenburg’s Magliolo makes track & field Legacy All-Star team
Schulenburg High School senior Meredith Magliolo recently made the 2023-2024 track & field 1-4A Legacy All-Star Selec tions list after another dominant season and not only making it to the state tournament, but medaling once again. The Texas Girls Coaches Association selects a minimum of 20 all-stars that are chosen by the TGCA Track Committee. The athletes must be seniors in order to make the team.

HALLETTSVILLE – The Columbus High School soft - ball team was defeated May 22 at Lady Brahmas Field by Hallettsville High School with a final score of 6-1. A big in - ning or two from Hallettsville did the job and the Lady Cardinals struggled to get their bats going throughout the game.

AUSTIN – Bulldogs baseball kept their season alive with an impressive win May 25 at Concordia University Baseball Field by sneaking past Johnson City High School with a final score of 2-1. Weimar Vets win opener
NEW ULM - The Weimar Vets traveled to New Ulm to take on the firemen for the first game of their community league 2024 opener. Kenny Goehring doubled in the second inning, driving in two runs to take the early lead. New Ulm countered with five runs to take the lead. The Vets tacked on a run in the third.

Flatonia’s Sodek earns STBA Multi-Sport Athlete of the Year
Flatonia sophomore Summer Sodek can do just about anything with a ball in her hand and she recently proved it by winning this year's STBA (Small Town Basketball Asso - ciation) Multi-Sport Athlete of the Year award. Sodek plays basketball, volleyball, and runs track at Flatonia and has put up dazzling numbers ever since she stepped foot on school grounds. Sodek averaged 24 points per game this season in basketball but is capable of recording 40 or 50 on any given night.
