Shorthorns football shuts out Hearne on homecoming
SCHULENBURG – Schulenburg football won their third game of the season Sept. 29 at Shorthorns Field by defeating Hearne High School with a final score of 10-0. The Shorthorns defense was stellar and they mustered just enough offense to seal a win on homecoming night. “We’re not turned around yet,” said Schulenburg head football coach Luke Hobbs.

Brazos volleyball swept by East Bernard
WALLIS – The Brazos High School volleyball team took a tough loss to East Bernard High School Sept. 19 at Cougars Gym by sweep with a final score of 7-25, 13-25, 13-25. The Cougarettes struggled to stop East Bernard’s lethal offense throughout the whole match as things went East Bernard’s way in each of the three sets.

Schulenburg sneaks past Thorndale in football for district win
First-year Schulenburg head football coach and athletic director Luke Hobbs is already turning things around for the Shorthorns. With a 41-40 win over district opponent Thorndale last Friday, Schulenburg is now 2-3 for the season and 1-0 in district play.

La Grange volleyball hangs just below .500 mark
The La Grange High School volleyball team has been fight ing hard to eclipse the .500 mark for their overall record and recently won a district game against Smithville September 12. It was their second- straight win at the time after taking down Thorndale the week before, capturing both victories three sets to one.

Weimar football obliterates Snook on homecoming night
WEIMAR – The Weimar High School football team showed out and protected their home turf on homecoming night with a smashing 51-20 win against Snook High School Sept. 15 at Wildcats Field. Weimar put their foot on the gas from the very start and didn’t let go for the game’s entirety, taking advantage on both sides of the ball and not allowing much of anything from Snook until the last few minutes in garbage time.

Brahmas football is maintaining their position as one of the most flourishing teams in the area with a 56-22 win over Cameron Yoe High School last Friday. Head coach Grady Rowe recently became the winningest coach in program history and it’s no surprise with how dominant he and his teams have been since he’s donned the red and white.

Bellville outlasts Giddings in volleyball
BELLVILLE – The Bellville High School volleyball team defeated Giddings High School at Brah- mas Gym Sept. 5 by a final score of 25-16, 19-25, 25-15, 25-22. Bellville dominated the first set and Giddings answered, but the Brahmanettes were able to hang on with their clutch gene and put down timely points. “Giddings came here loaded for bear,” said Bellville head volleyball coach Susan Brewer.

Flatonia grinds out win on homecoming vs Nixon-Smiley
FLATONIA – Bulldogs foot- ball protected home field on home coming night with a tough win vs Nixon-Smiley Sept. 8 at Bulldogs Field by a final score of 21-14. As this was an evenly matched game for it’s entirety, Flatonia eventually took the upper hand with their run game and battled for crucial yards down the stretch. “We elimi- nated the mistakes," said first-year Flatonia head football coach Brent Mascheck.

Lady Shorthorns catching fire in volleyball
After making a state tournament appearance last year, Schulenburg volleyball is headed toward the same path after a streak of wins over the past couple weeks. The Lady Horns now have a record above .500 with some cushion and recently went on a five-game win streak with victories against Fayetteville, La Grange, Waelder, Lexington, and Round Top-Carmine. Three of those wins were sweeps and the win against Round Top is a quality one. Even though Round Top is a class below Schulenburg in 1A, the Cubettes have been ranked in the top 10 for the TGCA Volleyball Poll throughout the entire season.

Weimar Wildcats heads to undefeated 3-0
Wildcats football is showing signs of turning it’s program around with a perfect start to the season and a 3-0 record. Weimar scored 53 points in their first game, 37 in their second game to go along with a shutout, and 65 in their most recent win against Somerville. The Wildcats also haven’t allowed more than 14 points in each game this season, with the 14 points allowed being in the Somerville game.

Columbus volleyball continues to roll
Lady Cardinals volleyball is once again looking like a state championship team with pieces all across the board. 2024 University of Texas at San Antonio volleyball commit Ally Tribe has been towards the top of the team kill list, which is normal for the 6’2” senior. Arranging the kills is senior setter Sage Thomas, who has the ability to tally 40-50 assists a game as she put up 45 in a recent win vs Victoria West.
