COLUMBUS – Cardinals boys basketball had a convincing win Jan. 6 at the Marley Giddens Center in Columbus vs Halletts ville High School by a final score of 60-42. A tie score at halftime led to 15 unanswered points in the third quarter to give them - selves enough cushion to coast for the rest of the game.

GIDDINGS – Bellville boys basketball took care of business Dec. 28. 2022, at Buffaloes Gym in Giddings with a win vs Wei- mar High School by a final score of 57-33. Bellville’s transition game was the bright spot in this matchup as they capitalized off Weimar’s turnovers and also hit a lot of shots. “Attitude and physicality,” said Bellville head boy’s basketball coach Mason Loiodice on the keys to victory.

Newly hired Schulenburg head football coach and athletic direc- tor Luke Hobbs had his first offi cial day on the job Jan. 3 after a stint as the offensive coordinator for Columbus High School football. The move was made a while after former Schulenburg head football coach and athletic director Walt Brock was dismissed due to a heated altercation during a football game with one of his assistants.

Former Bellville football player and all-time leading rusher Richard Reese stepped into Waco after a remarkable senior season with the Brahmas and proved that he can ball at the division one college level as well. Reese gathered a ton of minutes in his freshman season as a Baylor Bear and was a premier back for his team throughout the entire 2022 season.

The Flatonia boys and girls basketball teams are loaded with talent and good coaching, which has shown early in the year as they both have winning records well above .500. This could be the best boys team to step foot in Flatonia in quite sometime with senior Holden Kloesel back healthy after a season ending leg injury in the 2021-2022 season. The boys also have players such as 6’2’ senior center Jaidyn Guyton, who’s athletic and threw down a dunk during a game vs Rice a couple weeks ago.
