There is a kid’s cartoon about a little bear. In fact, the name of the cartoon is Little Bear. Anyone with kids will know Little Bear. Well, those who had kids, say, 10 years ago. Now, I don’t think many kids watch Little Bear. That show is almost better than Peppa Pig. Little Bear had built-in lessons that taught kids about life and such.

Marriage is hard. Ask anyone who has navigated the waters of matrimony for any length of time, and they will confirm this.

COLUMBUS – The smell of food was in the air last Sun day as the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual Fish and Oyster Fry at the KC Hall in Columbus. Hundreds of cars lined up for the drive-through service, and just as many parked in the parking lot and lined the streets to get meals.

Gov. Greg Abbott has created a statewide task force after several “street takeovers” recently took place in Austin in which motorists obstructed intersections, shot off fireworks and drove reckless ly.

The Colorado County 4-H group headed to San Antonio in February for the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo Dairy Judging contest. Team members include Audrey Potter, Jack Dudensing, Colten Koy, Lana Potter, Dakota Lindemann, Jacob Koy, Caden Key, Payton Lindemann and Henry Jones. Lana Potter earned ninth high point individual.

AUSTIN COUNTY–Austin County EMS recently took de livery of their second new ambulance.

BELLVILLE - Stephanie Detmer won a brand new Kubota lawn tractor.

Hudson Ervin recently was named the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Good Citizen for 2023. Ervin attends Weimar High School in Weimar.

COLUMBUS – A Meet the Candidates Q&A will be held on March 23 and April 20 to give everyone a chance to get to know who they may be voting for or deciding on if they will vote for them after the town hall meeting. The event will start at 5 p.m. and last until 8:30 p.m. It will be held at the Nesbitt Memorial Library at 529 Washington Street in Columbus.

SMITHVILLE - Schulen burg High School music students recenlty competed in the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest in Smithville. Four out of seven students received a Division 1 rating on their solos.

BELLVILLE – The Extension Education Association of Austin County (EEAAC) sponsored a soup, sandwich, and dessert meal at the Austin County Fair Convention and Expo Cen - ter in Bellville in honor of the Austin County Commissioners

COLUMBUS – The Colum- bus Cardinal Belles took first place in all three routines during the Showtime International Competition Feb. 18 in Corpus Christi.

COLUMBUS–The Colum- bus Business Revitalization Grant (CBRG) is an extension of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, and its purpose is to empower chamber members to enhance and improve their businesses and non-profits. All chamber members, in good standing with the chamber, were eligible to apply for grants up to $5,000.

Ash Wednesday fish fry cookin' good

LOCKHART – The Columbus High School boys basketball team escaped with a close win vs Randolph High School at Lockhart ISD Gym Feb. 21 by a final score of 57-55. Columbus had control for most of the game and Randolph slowly but surely creeped back in the contest. The Cardinals gritty performance down the stretch led them to the win. “We know basketball’s a game of runs,” said Columbus interim head boys basketball coach Lowell Narcisse. Cardinals head coach Troy Bohac missed the game due to an illness.
